The Polvos – Floating

In the stoner and psychedelic circles of Chile, The Polvos stand out with a well-layered style that pairs fuzz-rock power with spacious guitar lines.

In the South American psychedelic/stoner universe, The Polvos have distinguished themselves as a Chilean quintet that mixes resonant guitar lines with punchy rhythms. On their second album, Floating, they present a thick fuzz-rock production with expansive melodies and a solid undercurrent of cosmic textures. Released on December 15, 2023, through Germany’s Clostridium Records (vinyl) and supported by SurPop Records (Chile) and Smolder Brains Records (Mexico) for CD editions, this new work continues their emphasis on spacey, swirling rock while offering a heavier edge.

“Into the Space” serves as an opener that combines swirling echoes with a thick, immersive tone. “Fire Dance” follows by pushing the intensity, featuring assertive solos and steady drum patterns that maintain a sense of forward motion. “Going Down” leans on a deeper groove, providing a hypnotic foundation without losing heaviness.

“Acid Waterfall” stands out with a style reminiscent of The Re-Stoned’s Spectrum—vibrant guitar textures and a hazy undercurrent. The closer, “The Anubis Death,” brings a slightly darker mood while still retaining the ethereal presence established by the rest of the album.

Vinyl Editions

Collectors will find limited runs in two varieties—200 copies on 180-gram black vinyl and another 200 on 180-gram blue-marbled vinyl. Both come with a gatefold cover, a black poly-lined inner sleeve, an A3 poster, an LP-size insert, and a sticker. Each copy is individually numbered, adding an element of exclusivity.

As someone who keeps an ear on the South American fuzz scene, I’m drawn to how The Polvos create momentum without sacrificing the immersive, hazy atmosphere.

The Polvos deliver thick, feedback-heavy sections punctuated by atmospheric guitar flourishes. While maintaining a firm hold on heavy psych rock, they incorporate enough melodic content to keep listeners hooked across each lengthy track. Floating reflects how the Chilean scene consistently produces music that blends heavy undertones with spacey soundscapes. Fans of heavier psychedelia, layered guitars, and slow-burn rock passages should find plenty to appreciate in these five tracks.
