Unique creative sculptures by GREG KLASSEN
Visual artist Gregory Klaassen crafts tables that mimic the deep ravines and lakes of the great outdoors.
Following the natural knots in blocks of wood, he fills the spaces with sheets of green glass. This creates the illusion of crystal clear water tricking through the valley. It’s an elegant and considered approach that ensure his furniture is one of a kind.
I’M INSPIRED BY THE BEAUTIFUL WORLD JUST OUTSIDE MY DOOR. I LIVE IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST & FIND INSPIRATION IN THE TREES, THE RIVERS AND FIELDS.
Klaassen spends countless hours locked away in his personal workshop bringing his dazzling designs to life. Each table can take him months to create, from concept to the finished article.
You can see the full range of his creative craftsmanship through his personal website.
ABOUT
I am one man – I am not a company. I am a husband, a father and an artist. My wife and three little kids are a source of inspiration and happiness. I’m also inspired by the beautiful world just outside my door. I live in the Pacific Northwest and find inspiration in the trees, the rivers and the fields.
I create – I do not produce. I create because I love to. It’s so much fun and a pleasure to go to work. My pieces are handmade, in the truest sense of the word. I make one piece at a time and give it my full attention, starting with a tree and ending up with functional art. I love the idea of taking a discarded tree and giving in new life. I think the natural world is beautiful, and I love what I do.
Once upon a time I received a degree in theology, before I traded in my textbooks for a handplane. I studied furniture design & fine woodworking in such diverse locales as California’s redwood coast and an island village in Sweden, where I trained under two important furniture masters. My work has won praise from Martha Stewart, been featured in national magazines and won design awards. I have exhibited at various juried shows, including the prestigious Smithsonian Craft Show. My work is commissioned, collected and enjoyed by customers around the country.
I would love to hear from you and am happy to chat if you want to learn more about ordering a handmade piece of functional art.
Sincerely,
Greg Klassen
