Cosmic Fall – Back Where the Fire Flows

Anyone searching for sprawling jams and cosmic riffage will find Back Where the Fire Flows an intriguing addition to their collection.

Berlin’s Cosmic Fall has been a standout name in the psychedelic rock world since forming in 2016, crafting lengthy jams with an improvised twist. Their fourth album, Back Where the Fire Flows, returns to that freewheeling style while adding a fresh Krautrock influence. Slated for release on November 15, 2024, it signals both a step back into the band’s earlier spaced-out approach and a step forward into experimental territory.

A Brief History

Cosmic Fall got their start by embracing spontaneous jam sessions, culminating in their debut, First Fall, released just two months after the group formed. Further records such as Kick Out The Jams and In Search Of Outer Space showcased the band’s zeal for live-style improvisations, which they captured on tape and released as limited-edition vinyl through labels like Clostridium Records. Over time, lineup shifts brought different moods: heavier fuzz on one release, cosmic vibes on another.

A Shift in Personnel

Recent changes find bassist Klaus Friedrich stepping away, replaced by an old friend, Sergej Kamenski—though Klaus reappears on Back Where the Fire Flows (he recorded bass from 2021 to 2023 before leaving). In addition, Leonardo Caprioli now handles guitar duties, carrying on the band’s signature interstellar riffing. Drummer Daniel Sax remains the steady anchor, having been part of Cosmic Fall since day one.

Back Where the Fire Flows comes in two vinyl editions—black and purple marbled—each limited to 200 copies on 180g wax. Fans can expect hand-numbered copies, black poly-lined innersleeves, an A3 poster, and stickers. A CD digipak edition (limited to 500) is also available, along with digital formats.

This album merges everything Cosmic Fall has done so well in the past—freeform jams, heavy psychedelic passages, and playful nods to older German rock styles—while incorporating new contributors and a broader sonic palette. In a scene often saturated with reverb and fuzz, Cosmic Fall maintains a distinct character by letting each track evolve naturally, showcasing the band’s passion for in-the-moment creation.

Digital downloads, CD, and vinyl editions can be purchased on Cosmic Fall’s Bandcamp. For collectors, Clostridium Records handles the limited-edition vinyl pressings that often sell out quickly.

This Berlin trio (plus friends) continues to emphasize spontaneity and texture in their music—a quality that has earned them a devoted following since those early jam sessions in the summer of 2016. Expect to crank the volume and drift away among the swirling guitars and deeply resonant rhythms of Cosmic Fall’s latest chapter.
