Dennis McKenna: Legal Psychedelics Could End The Antidepressant Industry

Unfortunately, much of all that takes place in western medicine is largely influenced by money. It is no secret that big-pharma denies medical efficacy of many different substances purely because they see no potential for profit, a corruption that is made abundantly clear in the drug scheduling of many of the naturally occurring psychoactive substances despite their apparent psychiatric applications. (Psilocybin, dimethyltryptamine, mescaline, tetrahydrocannabinol, etc) As these substances have usage dated back thousands of years in human history, it is not possible for pharmaceutical companies to patent, process, and extort patients and medical facilities thus, the illegality is maintained and the highly profitable selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) continue to be shoveled into the mouths of the clinically depressed and anxiety-ridden.

In the segment taken from episode 447 of the Joe Rogan Experience, Dennis McKenna shines some light on the harsh reality of big pharma; the atrocious over-prescribing of SSRI antidepressants as money making band-aid solutions for conditions that may be easily treatable with one or two sessions of psychoactive treatment.
