The Hunter’s/Blood Moon appears every October, except once every four years when it doesn’t appear until November. This bright moon got its moniker from Native Americans lore, as this is the time when leaves start to fall from the trees, and hunter’s begin to stockpile food in preparation for the long winter ahead by tracking and killing prey under the autumn moonlight.
2016’s Hunter’s Moon also happens to be a Supermoon, which means the Full Moon is closer to us in orbit than others. It’s near perigee, the moon’s closest point to Earth in its monthly orbit…perigee comes on October 16 at 23:36 UTC (translate to your time zone), about 19 hours after the crest of the moon’s full phase at 4:23 UTC on the same date.
When Full Moons are closer to Earth, they do look brighter, and have a larger-than-usual effect on earthly tides. Being that the human body is comprised of almost 90% water, from a spiritual perspective, Full Moon’s (in particular) may bring about shifts in your consciousness, and also serve as a catalyst for an energetic illumination – bringing light to darkness, and igniting your inner guidance/allowing your intuition to come to the forefront of your mind.
“Let yourself be silently drawn by the strange pull of what you really love. It will not lead you astray.” – Rumi
When taking the metaphor of “The Hunter” into account, the energies tied to this moon are in service to both Earthly and astral planes. The autumn hunter is guided by the light of the moon, and the signs that are hidden within nature. The universe provides clues, yet intuition is the compass which guides his journey. Through following both “above” and “below” (see: The Seven Hermetic Principles: II – The Principle of Correspondence), he is guided to what nourishes his body – by following his mind and inner magnetism.
Metaphorically speaking, look at this powerful moon as the spark which will illuminate your search for nourishment – spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. This is a time to listen to what you need in the way of sustenance for your soul – and to find clarity on what you need to “hunt” in order to make manifest of that which will make your spirit sing, and keep you warm during the cold of winter. Like a hunter, be calculating, and be methodical – pay attention to the signs you receive in nature/reality, because they will also echo the dreams you may receive in the astral realm. Synchronicity will be at an all time high, and (as we’ve said before) there are valuable lessons in what repeats in your day to day experience.
This is a time for you, and you alone. Place your focus on cultivating the gold within your soul, and tune out any interference from outside static (ie: opinions of others/loved ones, fear, worry/regret) – listen to your soul’s song, and pay no mind to the inharmonious noise of judgement. Your truth is yours – protect it with a fierce vigor, and stay fearless. The mediocre thoughts of ignorant minds only limits your growth, and impedes progress.
