Himalayan salt lamps are used widely and are regarded for their health benefits as well as their aesthetic beauty. It’s an excellent accent for any home and has great impacts on your health.
This salt, often called King’s Salt because it used to be reserved for royalty, can be used to help with allergies, skin conditions, headaches, insomnia, and rheumatism. It may seem a little farfetched, but the salt lamps actually ionize the air.
What’s the big deal? Who cares if salt ionizes the air? Well, these ions, which are molecules that have an electric charge due to the gain or loss of electrons, are present everywhere. They are actually essential to life! But in today’s era, the ionic balance is off because of all the technologies we use in our daily lives.
“As all living systems (including human beings) are bioelectric in nature, the electrically charged particles affect the way we feel and act,” said G. S. Rahi, Assistant Professor of Physical Science at Fayetteville State University. “In natural setting a balance of positive and negative ions contribute to one’s sensations and perceptions. Atmospheric ions can affect health, well-being, efficiency, emotions, and mental attitude of human beings.”
Excessive ions can cause a variety of serious health issues. Negating these ions serves to promote good health.
“Generally speaking, negative ions increase the flow of oxygen to the brain; resulting in higher alertness, decreased drowsiness, and more mental energy,” says Pierce J. Howard, PhD. “They also may protect against germs in the air, resulting in decreased irritation due to inhaling various particles that make you sneeze, cough, or have a throat irritation.”
Each lamp has a limited range, so you’ll likely want one in every room.
